The modern workplace is becoming more stressful, with rising tensions, performance pressure, and burnout affecting employees worldwide. A study by Workplace Options (WPO) highlights that workplace stress is the top concern in most countries. “Psychological safety…is no longer just a workplace perk. It is a business necessity,” said WPO CEO Alan King.
The study, based on real employee conversations, found that workplace conflict is a major issue in China, France, and Japan, while young workers are experiencing high levels of burnout. “If organizations do not prioritize psychological safety now, the next generation will enter a workforce defined by stress, conflict, and disengagement,” warned Dr. Kennette Thigpen Harris.
The Psychological Safety Study shows that stress, conflict, and performance struggles dominate workplace concerns worldwide. Key findings include:
- Workplace stress ranks as the top concern in nearly every country studied.
- Conflict at work is a widespread issue, particularly in China, France, and Japan.
- Performance pressure is rising globally, with employees citing struggles to meet expectations.
- Young adults are experiencing burnout, raising alarms about the future of workforce wellbeing.
Companies that ignore these issues face high turnover, low productivity, and disengaged employees. The study urges leaders to create a culture of trust and support to prevent these problems.
