Safety management in the construction industry is of critical importance. If you need site safety management, we can work with you in several ways.
We can offer a part time construction safety coordinator or a 40 hour site safety manager depending on what your site needs are.
If you don’t already have one, we will work with you to create a site specific plan to your site that adheres to regulatory provisions. Our construction safety coordinator will review your safety program with particular attention to items that are mandatory for work in your specific area, or update/ revise as appropriate.
Next, we’ll identify critical tasks most likely to impact safety on your site. We’ll create written procedures for these tasks and develop an Emergency Response Plan that will include First Aid response, evacuation and head count procedures.
Safe Work Procedures are also an important part of project safety management and are a requirement in Ontario. We can work with you to develop or otherwise review and revise safety procedures, as well.
Our construction safety coordinator will also assist with on-site visits form any governmental body.
Managing health and safety in construction involves consistently applying health and safety activities.
Effective Site Safety Management
Effective site safety management begins before an employee is permitted on the construction site. We support the view that safety awareness and hazard communication training should be conducted during initial orientation.
Specific topics can include:
- Site Layout
- Emergency Evacuation Procedures
- Work Permit Requirements
- Site Rules and Regulations
- Security and Access Control
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods
- Root Cause Analysis
- WHMIS
- Confined Space Entry
- Safety Watch
- Respirator Fit Testing and Training
- Pre-Task Analysis
- Fall Protection
- First Aid
- Incident/Accident/Injury Reporting
- Health Protection
- Fire Protection
- Personal Protective Equipment
- Near Miss Reporting
Our experience shows that having a 40 hour site safety manager on the premises for the duration of the project is the best way to demonstrate to all stakeholders that safety is being taken seriously on this site.
We strive to create and maintain a positive attitude among workers, contractors and all stakeholders by promoting a genuine concern for safe work practices. To do so we create positive solutions to any issues that may arise. We maintain open and continual communication among workers, contracting groups and management. Should an incident or near miss arise, we participate in immediate investigation to prevent reoccurrence.

Site Safety Inspections
We help you prepare for site safety inspections and interact with Ministry personnel. At H.E.L.P. Safety Services our people conduct a formal safety inspection targeting a specific area at a predetermined time. The objective is to learn about problems before they occur.
The benefits of formal inspections are:
- Reinforce excellence in safety and health performance
- Identify that hazards are being minimized
- Measure the effect of change
- Develop accountability for issues
- Communicate recognition of high safety standards
- Contract Enforcement
- Provide feedback to you
In the event of egregious disregard of the safety expectations our construction safety coordinator may stop work and recommend further corrective action. In circumstances where there is potential for personal injury or damage, with existing controls failing, the work may be suspended until effective controls can be put in place to ensure safe working conditions. This would be carried out in association with corporate supervision and in accordance with terms defined in your Health and Safety Plan.
