The JHSC is the primary source of workplace H&S administration and should be structured and should function in a manner that will progressively and responsibly represent the interests of workers. The occupational health and safety act requires that an employer with 20 or more workers at a workplace establish a joint health and safety committee.
H.E.L.P. Safety Services will assist the implementation or revitalization of a positive JHSC, structured to represent the particulars of your workplace. Beginning with the mutually acceptable guidelines for committee operations, we will assist the committee to refocus on collective responsibilities and progressively represent the interests of the workplace parties.
Ontario legislation allows for an employer carrying on business at more than one workplace to obtain approval for a single JHSC to represent the interests of multiple work locations. Of special interests to municipalities, Boards of Education, multi-site franchise owners, large retail chains and any other operation with multiple locations, a reduction in the number of joint committees can mean a more effective operation of a health and safety program, at a fraction of the present cost.
We can administer this process from the initial submission to the Ministry, up to and including the final approval and implementation in the workplace.
